
Position Overview
The Center for Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of North Texas is seeking a subject matter expert in transportation, freight, and international trade for a newly created Assistant or Associate Research Professor position. The successful candidate will have substantial experience in applied research and/or practitioner consulting with a demonstrated knowledge and experience working on transportation issues related to U.S.-Mexico trade. Candidates should also have more general experience working on freight transportation issues in the United States, which preferably includes work in Texas.
The position is full-time and offers State of Texas benefits. This is a non-tenure track position and its funding is entirely dependent upon external contracts and research grants. The successful candidate will be expected, on an occasional but recurring basis, to proactively support or lead pursuits for additional external funding. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to obtain funds from external sources. The position is based in Austin, Texas and is “research-only”. Responsibilities will not include student teaching, student mentoring, or departmental service at UNT. Salary will be commensurate with the chosen candidate’s professional experience and capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
- Ph.D. degree in supply chain management, planning, regional economics, civil engineering or a related field (e.g., geography, public affairs, etc.). Exceptionally strong candidates with a master’s degree, along with significant professional experience and skill sets, will be considered.
Required Experience:
- Three or more years of highly relevant, full-time professional experience to be considered for the Research Assistant Professor position. Ten or more years of highly relevant full-time experience to be considered for the Research Associate position. Research Associate Professor position candidates must also have a demonstrated track record of obtaining external funding.
- Demonstrated experience addressing transportation and trade issues along the Texas-Mexico border, which includes knowledge of and experience working with transportation and economic data sources in the United States and Mexico
- Historical knowledge of Texas and Mexico’s economies and U.S.-Mexico trade under NAFTA and USMCA.
- Proven experience applying a range of technical tools to inform transportation planning and policy analysis.
- Significant experience in report writing that involved qualitative and quantitative analyses to address complex problems related to freight transportation and international trade in Texas or Mexico.
