Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Transportation Engineering, preferably at the Assistant Professor level.

The Department has strong research activities in infrastructure engineering, structural engineering, materials, environmental engineering, geo-environmental and geotechnical engineering, fluid mechanics and water resources engineering and transportation engineering.

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching in its undergraduate and graduate programs in Civil Engineering and values service contributions of its Faculty members to the University, the profession and society at-large.

Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Candidates must have a Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent), with a first degree in Civil Engineering. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, or research potential, is indispensable. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and teaching expertise in the future of urban mobility and smart systems. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: transportation automation and electrification, shared mobility, urban transportation systems modeling and simulation, traffic flow theory, emerging highway technologies, resilience, public transportation planning and operations, freight management, and energy efficiency and emissions modeling. A strong background in computer-simulation modeling in transportation engineering, optimization, and/or machine learning is required. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for interdisciplinary research connecting transportation engineering with infrastructure, sustainable design and/or climate change. The potential to carry out collaborative research across Departments and Schools at the University, and to develop links with internal / external organizations such as TISED, CIRRELT, GERAD, CDSI and IVADO, is an asset.
